In this experience we visit the first wonder of Colombia, the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquira, in addition to the towns of Zipaquira and Cajica. We also make a stop in a roses crop, since Colombia stands out not only for exporting coffee, but also for roses and flowers. The idea of visiting the roses crop, more than seeing mini spray roses and getting to know all the process before exporting them, is to see the people that work in it, since that is what makes this industry so special. Please notice that since this is a crop that produces flowers to export, so most of the roses are not completely in bloom. The approximate duration of the experience is 9 hours and we have daily departures from Monday to Saturday.

The Salt Cathedral of Zipaquira
The Salt Cathedral of Zipaquira is an underground catholic church built within the tunnels of a salt mine, 180 metres underground in a mountain in the town of Zipaquira, in Cundinamarca, Colombia, very close to Bogotá (49 Km). It is the most visited place by tourist in Colombia and a place of pilgrimage in the country. This underground Salt Cathedral is considered one of the most notable achievements of Colombian architecture. All this make this place a must do while being in Colombia and specially in Bogota, and that is why when people think about bogota tours, this is one of the first spots that comes up. Go Up or Book
Why a flower crop?
Colombia is famous for many reasons; coffee, gold, emeralds, landscapes and the charm of its people, but little can create as much admiration as the quality and variety of its flowers. There are million of plants blooming across the country in many different colors. Colombia is one of the world's top flower producers, exporting flowers worth more than USD$1billion every year and the industry is growing. Around 70% of all cut flowers imported into the United States come from Colombia. Between thousands of flowers in Colombia the three that stand out are roses, carnations and orchids. In this experience we focus on roses, which are by far the country's most popular, in one farm alone, you can find many different colors.
But... Why are Colombian flowers so famous? First, because the incredible Colombian biodiversity. Colombia has more than 130.000 different plant species on its soil thanks to its range of climates and eco-systems. Secondly, Colombia has near-perfect conditions for commercial flower production, which is why its flowers are so famous. The country's main flower-growing area is on the savana of Bogota, that is where the flower crop we are visiting is located, because it has consistent temperatures all year round and the same amount of light every day for about 12 hours. That besides the fact that 100.000 years ago, the savana was a lake and even though it's dry now, it still has dense, clay-rich soil and massive network of wetlands, tributaries and waterfalls, perfect for flower-growing. What is a Buddy?
Instead of offering tours in Bogota and Colombia we offer experiences. We don't like sticking to a program and telling you every single detail of the places you are visiting. We want you to explore with us and to let us tell you more, not only about the touristic spots we visit, but also about Colombia and about our personal lives and dreams. A Buddy is not a professional tour guide, it is not a person that has studied the whole history or geography of Colombia. It is a local that is not only willing to open his or her heart, but also to become your friend and help you out the most he or she can. We cannot promise you the best experience of your life, but we can promise you we will do our best to make you happy. Go Up or Book
